Which do you want first?

The good news? or the bad news?

You: Let's have the bad news first, then by the time the good news comes, I'll have already forgotten about the bad.

Ok.

Bad News - Contrary to ealier beliefs/hopes/truths the Saturday Saints will not be playing in New York city on September, 10th. Unfortunately - we got bumped. Bummer, I know. We promise, that were coming to NYC again soon though. Afterall - it is my hometown.

BUT
Good News - We ARE playing at the Middle East Upstairs on Thursday, September 8th. Thanks to Brian, of SUPERAWESOME fame for hooking it up, and Shred for finally getting us in the door. It is our first show at the famed <a href="mideastclub.com" target"_blank">Middle East. So all better come out. More details soon.

Got some vocals down

Hello again,

We started tracking vocals and they sound oh so sweet! I am constantly impressed by these ladies. What does a bass player know about singing anyway. You may have heard me at a show, I'm sorry. Anyway, you are going to hear nothing but these three sweet ladies singin' their hearts out on the new album. Beautiful.

Rose-colored glasses

How many bands drink rose while recording their debut album? I'm not sure, but this summer the Saturday Saints have been loooving that much maligned wine category- rose. It all began a couple of weeks ago when a rep dropped off a sample of Reinares Rose from Spain, a cheap little number that I brought to practice with me, figuring I'd kill two birds with one stone-- bringing booze for the Saints and doing homework for the shop. Well, it was a hit. Fresh and fruity and nice and cool on such a hot Wednesday. It had more than a bit of that blue-raspberry tang that I associate with whole-cluster fermentation but what do I know? All I knew then was that I was looking at a bunch of happy bandmates.

The following week I thought we'd get a bit more serious, so I tucked a bottle of 2004 Domaine D'Eole Coteaux D'Aix-en-Provence into my guitar case. Mmmm, boy, I could drink this wine all summer long. Austere enough to remind me that it's French but still ample in the fruit department-- cherries and ripe strawberries and a touch of something like rosewater. A true Mediterranean blend of Grenache, Counoise, Syrah and Mourvedre. Unbeatable, but more than I usually like to spend on band wine...

Last week, Bevin and I grabbed some quick take-out at Whole Foods and happened upon Momokawa's new Plum-infused Rose Sake. It was definitely an Oh-Lookie buy and I had high hopes that were quickly dashed against Japan's rocky coast. Yuck! A thick, cough syrupy concoction that left us all gagging (although, curiously, the bottle was empty at the end of the night). I quickly filed this one under Never Again.

This week I'm offering the band a new item from the store: 2004 Le Petite Caboche Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Rose from JP Boisson. Cross your fingers for us. I've yet to try it but the price is right ($7), even if the importer (Monsieur Touton) is shady...
